This is a basic network, and it requires three network cards. Two of these network cards can be wireless, which will allow you to work from the laptop in any location within the near vicinity of the desktop computer. This is the most common method for homeowners that need to share the Internet. When configuring a network with a cross over cable, it is usually used to transfer information from a mobile computer to a desktop or vise versa. When there are only two computers that are required for the network configuration, it is really all that is needed to share information like the Internet or a printer. However, it does very little in the form of security, and like any network configuration -- there are advantages and disadvantages in this type of set up. Advantages It is the simplest and the most cost effective method for networking two computers together to share information and other resources. Actually, the cost of a network of this type is the main advantage. Another advantage is it's an excellent start because all of the initial equipment can be used when adding or expanding your network capabilities. Disadvantages The main disadvantage is it can only support two computes when configured without wireless network cards. Another problem is the computer that is hook to the Internet or a printer must be running in order for the other connected computers to have access to any of the shared resources. If we build it, they will come. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. For immediate assistance, call 239.292.1112 Copyright© 2003 P&J WebDesign, All rights reserved. |
